5 intel cops face raps over drug suspect’s slay

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Criminal complaints have been filed against five intelligence operatives tagged in the killing of a drug suspect at the boundary of Tiaong, Quezon and San Juan, Batangas on May 28.

Col. Jacinto Malinao, Batangas police director, said murder charges  have been filed before the Lucena prosecutor’s office against five members of the San Juan police station.

Malinao said investigation showed that no shootout occurred between the police officers and Bryan Laresma, alias Balot, in Barangay Lipahan.

The suspect did not yield any illegal drugs or gun, Malinao said.

Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, Calabarzon police director, said a probe indicated that the police officers committed irregularities in the performance of their duties.

Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran, Calabarzon police spokesperson, said former San Juan police chief Lt. Col. Jesus Lintag, who was relieved from his post for command responsibility, was not included in the charge sheet.

The policemen have also been relieved from their posts, and are facing administrative charges for grave misconduct.
