MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) sees a possible rise in dengue cases during the rainy season.

DOH Assistant Secretary and spokesman Albert Domingo advised the public to take the necessary precautions against the disease, noting that dengue  cases usually increase in July and August.

DOH data showed that dengue cases dropped to 3,992 from May 12 to 25 compared to 5,359 from April 28 to May 11.

Despite the decline in dengue cases, the DOH reminded the public not to be complacent.

The onset of the rainy season brings stagnant water that can serve as breeding ground for dengue-carrying mosquitoes, it said.

The DOH advised the public to destroy potential mosquito breeding sites, particularly stagnant water.
