MANILA, Philippines — Up to 126 inmates are scheduled to be released from prisons today as part of the observance of the 126th Independence Day, according to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

This will bring to 14,324 the number of inmates freed since June 2022, BuCor chief Gregorio Catapang said.

Catapang said 95 BuCor personnel would be promoted.

Those who will be promoted include a corrections chief superintendent, four superintendents, three technical chief inspectors, five chief inspectors, a senior inspector, 10 senior officers IV, 27 officers II and four non-uniformed personnel.

Thirteen non-uniformed corrections officers will take their oath of office.

“For BuCor personnel who are doing well, keep up the good work. We thank you for restoring the good image of our institution,” Catapang said.
