MANILA, Philippines — Water elevation in Angat Dam in Bulacan has slightly improved in the past two days due to rains spawned by the southwest monsoon or habagat.

As of 8 a.m. yesterday, Angat’s water level was 178.19 meters, or up by one centimeter from the previous day’s 178.18 meters, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said that although an improvement was noted, the figure was still below the dam’s operating level of 180 meters.

On Saturday, the reservoir’s elevation rose to 178.18 meters, or up by 16 centimeters from last Friday’s 178.02 meters.

The monsoon affected a majority of the areas in the country including Metro Manila.

Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water needs and provides for the irrigation needs of 25,000 hectares of farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga.

Meanwhile, six other dams in Luzon recorded an improvement in their water elevations, including La Mesa in Quezon City, which increased by three centimeters after it reached 75.89 meters from 75.86.

Ambuklao Dam in Benguet was higher by 20 centimeters, or from 741.24 to 741.44 meters.

Binga Dam in Benguet increased by 22 centimeters, or to 569 meters from 568.78 meters previously.

Other dams that showed improvement were Pantabangan in Nueva Ecija, Magat in Isabela and Caliraya in Laguna, which increased by 20 centimeters, 1.32 meters and two cm, respectively.
