LRT-1’s Cavite extension 98.2 percent complete

MANILA, Philippines — The first phase of the Light Rail Transit Line 1’s Cavite extension project is set for completion this year, LRT-1 operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said yesterday.

As of end-April, construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is progressing as scheduled with its 98.2 percent completion rate, putting the project on track for its target commercial opening in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The project will add 6.2 kilometers to the existing LRT-1 line from Baclaran Station in Pasay to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque.

LRMC president and CEO Jose Ma. Lim told The STAR the company has so far spent over P40 billion for the project.

The five new stations under Phase 1 are at various stages of completion, with Redemptorist Station at 97.4 percent; MIA Station, 97.2 percent; Asia World Station, 90.4 percent; Ninoy Aquino Station, 93.5 percent, and Dr. Santos Station at 97.7 percent.

Three more stations will be completed by 2031.
