Man arrested for raping step-granddaughter

MANILA, Philippines — A 59-year-old man accused of raping his step-granddaughter for over two years was arrested in Quezon City.

The suspect, a resident of Barangay East Kamias, was apprehended by police officers in an entrapment operation at a motel in Barangay Silangan at around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The suspect’s arrest came after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint after discovering he has been sexually abusing her daughter since 2022.

Acting on the complaint, police officers under the supervision of Quezon City Police District women and children concern section head Maj. Rene Balmaceda conducted an entrapment operation.

The suspect was caught while in the company of the victim, who was rescued by lawmen.

The suspect is being held for violating provisions of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and RA 11930, which penalizes online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
