MANILA, Philippines — Three police officers were arrested on June 2 for kidnapping two Chinese in Pasay and holding them for ransom.
One was a traffic police officer from Makati while the other two were with the National Capital Region Police Office, according to a report from the Pasay police.
The victims were driving along Taft Avenue when the traffic police officer pulled them over due to an alleged traffic violation.
The two other police officers, who alighted from a van, handcuffed the victims and took their vehicle to another location.
The victims were able to escape and seek help from authorities.
The three police officers are facing charges of kidnapping, robbery and serious illegal detention, according to the police report.
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos is reportedly scheduled to present the three arrested police officers in a briefing at Camp Crame today.
