MANILA, Philippines — The Davao City police has denied reports that 37 of its members have tested positive for drug use.

“We clarify that this news is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Davao City Police Office and is entirely false,” the DCPO said in a statement.

It said a surprise drug test conducted on May 30 showed that all its personnel tested negative for methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

The Davao police said it “strongly condemns the dissemination of fake news, which has rapidly spread, causing misunderstanding and mistrust among the public.”

It urged “everyone to verify information before sharing or announcing it.”

Meanwhile, in Cebu City, six kilos of shabu with an estimated value of P40.8 million were seized in Barangay Labangon on Monday night.

Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, Central Visayas police director, said an alias Joey, who can sell around seven kilos of shabu per week, was arrested.

In Angeles City, Chinese citizens Liao Hong Tao, Li Guo and Wan Li were arrested for alleged possession of shabu valued at P3.4 million yesterday.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said the suspects were involved in the distribution of drugs to workers of Philippine offshore gaming operator firms.
