MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Council will discuss a proposed measure to address dangling wires in a meeting this week, MMC president and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said yesterday.

“I will coordinate with MMDA Chairman Don Artes so that we can discuss during our next MMC meeting possible regulations that can be approved to address this issue of dangling wires in (the National Capital Region),” Zamora said.

“I urge all stakeholders to support this vital measure,” he added.

House Bill 10427 seeks to provide a comprehensive solution to the problem by holding utility providers accountable and empowering local governments to enforce compliance.

Zamora expressed full support to the proposed anti-dangling wires law.

“This important measure addresses the long-standing issue of spaghetti wires that pose significant safety risks and spoil the beauty of our cities,” he said.

San Juan has an ordinance that created a task force to address dangling wires, according to Zamora.

The mayor said that in 2021, the city government has partnered with public utility companies to regulate and monitor the installation of wires, enhancing safety and improving the city’s landscape.

“Our proactive approach has reduced accidents and minimized service disruptions during typhoons,” Zamora said.
