New Eastmincom chief assumes post

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Maj. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II has been designated as acting commander of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).

Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol relinquished his post as Eastmincom chief yesterday after reaching the mandatory age of retirement.

The change of command ceremony was held at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario at Camp Panacan in this city.

Cuerpo will remain as 4th Infantry Division commander in a concurrent capacity.

He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1990 and a veteran in the government’s campaign against the Islamic State-inspired Dawla Islamiyah.
