MANILA, Philippines — The owner of a pickup truck caught using the EDSA busway on May 26 has been identified and will be issued a show-cause order by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Philippine National Railways chairman Michael Macapagal told The STAR that the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) identified the owner of a white Ford Ranger pickup truck, earlier reported as bearing license plate ABP 8485, as a resident of Region 12.

“The owner of the vehicle has been identified, and it is not me,” Macapagal said, adding that he would be filing charges against those responsible for the violation.

Macapagal said he was in Olongapo City celebrating his son’s birthday on May 26. Closed-circuit television footage shows that Macapagal’s vehicle was in Olongapo City on May 26 at around 4 p.m. and “never left until the morning of the 27th.”

The SAICT pulled over the pickup truck along the EDSA busway’s northbound lane at around 11:28 p.m. on May 26.

The driver claimed that he was from the DOTr and showed a calling card bearing the name of Macapagal before speeding away.
