MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay was sworn in yesterday as a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), which earlier announced its intention to field her as one of its senatorial bets in the 2025 midterm polls.

Binay’s husband, Makati Rep. Luis Campos, administered the oath of membership at the NPC clubhouse in Quezon City.

Present at the event were NPC president Rizal Rep. Michael John Duavit, secretary general Mark Llandro Mendoza and Tarlac Rep. Jaime Cojuangco.

The NPC earlier inked an alliance with President Marcos’ Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Binay expressed her gratitude to the NPC for considering her in its senatorial slate as she appealed for a renewal of purpose among political parties.

“The issues facing our country should be seen as a chance to work together and find a common purpose rather than opportunities to sow division,” Binay said in a statement.

The mayor said she would continue to fulfill her commitment to her constituents, considering that the midterm election is still a year away.

Binay is on her third term as mayor of Makati, the country’s second richest city.

She has said she would endorse her husband to be her successor.

Binay’s sister, Sen. Nancy Binay, will also finish her term in the Senate after serving as senator for 12 years.

The senator earlier said she is ready to face Campos in the mayoralty race.
