Quakes jolt Abra, Davao

MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes of magnitudes 4.3 and 4 jolted the provinces of Abra and Davao Occidental, respectively on Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the quake in Abra occurred at 8:59 p.m. and its epicenter was located nine kilometers north of Bangued.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Vigan, Caoayan and Santa Catalina in Ilocos Sur; Intensity 2 in Cabugao, Magsingal, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Sinait and San Vicente, also in Ilocos Sur; and Bangued, Danglas, Lagayan, La Paz, Tayum and Lucub in Abra.

The quake was not expected to generate aftershocks, but it may cause damage to property, state seismologists said.

Meanwhile, the magnitude 4 quake rocked Davao Occidental at 9:34 p.m. 

The epicenter of the quake was located 229 kilometers south of Balut Island in Sarangani. It was not expected to cause damage to property.

Both quakes were tectonic in origin.
