Man caught selling submachine gun

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected gunrunner was arrested for allegedly selling a submachine gun in Quezon City on Wednesday night.

Alvin Castillo, 35, was apprehended by police in a sting in Barangay Greater Fairview at around 8:10 p.m., Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said.

Maranan said Castillo met with undercover officers of the QCPD’s criminal investigation and detection unit in front of a school for the sale of a submachine gun.

After he allegedly accepted P9,000 in marked money, police placed Castillo in custody.

Police also confiscated his cell phone, which will be examined by investigators for leads on his other illicit transactions, and the submachine gun.

Castillo was charged with violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, before the office of the city prosecutor.
