Lightning kills 2 soldiers

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two soldiers died when lightning struck during an operation against communist rebels at the border of Pasil and Lubuagan towns in Kalinga on Sunday.

Cpl. Andrew Monterubio and Pfc. Inmongog Aronchay were with a group of soldiers when a thunderstorm occurred, the Army’s 5th Infantry Division (ID) reported yesterday.

Four other soldiers were injured.

In a statement, the 5th ID led by Maj. Gen. Audrey Pasia condoled with the families of Monterubio and Aronchay and paid tribute to the two soldiers.

The 5th ID said the two made the”ultimate sacrifice in service of the Philippine flag.”
