GINGOOG, Philippines — Northern Mindanao has been recognized as one of the best dive destinations in the country, according to an official of the Department of Tourism.
DOT regional director Marie Elaine Unchuan said these diving sites are in this city as well as the towns of Medina, Balingoan, Balingasag, Camiguin, Jasaan and Talisayan, among other areas in Misamis Oriental.
“When we knew that there are potential diving sites in Gingoog, we were really excited, we went there,” Unchuan said. ”Several dive professionals came to the diving sites and then their photos went viral.”
She said local communities should participate in the development of diving sites in the region.
“We give training to our local communities because their involvement is very vital to the success of the tourism industry in the region,“ Unchuan said.
She said a diving festival would be held in Camiguin this year.
