Man faces raps for killing neighbor’s cat
MANILA, Philippines — A criminal case has been filed against a man who shot dead his neighbor’s cat in Manila.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and the cat’s owner filed a complaint against Johnmed Parungao before the Manila prosecutor’s office on May 3.
Parungao is facing charges for violating Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act.
PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera said the cat was found dead by her owner with a gunshot to the head.
It took the cat’s owner nearly a year to identify Parungao as the culprit after she obtained closed-circuit television footage, which showed the suspect shooting the pet.
It was not determined what prompted Parungao to kill the cat.
If the complaint goes to court, the suspect is facing more than a year in prison and will be fined P100,000 if convicted.
