Northern Samar mayor reinstated

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — A suspended municipal mayor in Northern Samar has been reinstated after he was cleared of charges involving an allegedly illegal road project.

The reinstatement of Mayor Jose Arturo Suan of Allen town came after the Office of the Ombudsman dismissed the charges filed against him by a private complainant.

Records showed the case stemmed from the construction of a road project in Barangay Sabang 2 without proper notice from the complainant.

In 2023, Suan was suspended without pay for six months for grave abuse of authority.

Suan filed a motion fr reconsideration, which resulted in the dismissal of the charges by the ombudsman due to lack of evidence.

The reinstatement was implemented by Geraldine Maquelabit, chief of the provincial office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
