MANILA, Philippines — There is no security risk with the entry of former fighters of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The PNP gave the assurance after 100 members of two former rebel groups completed a six-month training conducted by the Bangsamoro police under its Basic Recruitment Course.

President Marcos was the guest of honor and speaker during the graduation ceremony of the officers at Camp BGen. Salipada K. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte on Monday.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said that 92 men and eight women, who were former MILF and MNLF combatants, are now part of the country’s police organization.

Fajardo said the officers, who were chosen from a pool of about 11,000 applicants, underwent screening and background investigation to ensure that none of them have outstanding arrest warrants.

She said she expects the new officers to remain loyal to the country and the public.
