MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was not the target of an ambush perpetrated by unidentified men on Tuesday, a police official said yesterday.
The police official, who spoke on condition that he is not named, said the assailants’ target was the BIR officer’s driver, 29-year-old Arvin Lacuesta.
The BIR official, with the rank of revenue officer IV, was in a sport utility vehicle when the shooting occurred along Gregorio Araneta Avenue.
Two men on a motorcycle, one of whom was armed with a handgun, were involved in the attack, according to probers.
The source did not disclose other details of the probe, including the suspects’ motive for killing the driver.
Lacuesta died at the East Avenue Medical Center. The BIR official was unharmed.
Police said they are looking for closed-circuit television footage from establishments near the crime scene to determine the suspects’ identities.
