2 SUVs linked to Batangas drug haul recovered

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two sport utility vehicles linked to 1.4 tons of shabu valued at P9.68 billion seized in Alitagtag, Batangas last week have been found abandoned in San Luis, Pampanga.

A white Ford Explorer and a black Toyota Land Cruiser were found near a cockpit and a memorial park in Barangay Sta. Lucia on Sunday.

Sources said the vehicles were spotted leaving a house rented by a Canadian in Alitagtag, which police raided on Friday last week.

A manhunt for the Canadian and his compatriot, reportedly skippers of two private yachts that were used to transport the shabu, is underway.

Ajalon Michael Zarate, the driver of the van wherein the illegal drugs were recovered, also reportedly stayed in the house.

Probers said the license plates of the abandoned vehicles were tampered.

Col. Jean Fajardo, Philippine National Police chief information officer, refused to comment on the recovery of the two vehicles, citing an ongoing case buildup.
