Magnitude 4.6 quake hits Surigao Norte
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Surigao del Norte yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake, which struck at 7:31 a.m., was monitored 48 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan.
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 20 kms.
Intensity 3 was recorded in Bislig City and Intensity 1 in Hinatuan and Tagbina in Surigao del Sur.
No damage or aftershocks were expected from the quake.
Phivolcs said the temblor is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.4 quake that struck Surigao del Sur in December last year.
