2 dead, 9 hurt in Caloocan fire
MANILA, Philippines — Two women, including a senior citizen, died while nine others were injured in a fire that struck Barangay 27, Caloocan yesterday.
At least 11 fire trucks responded to the site, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The fire reached second alarm before it was put out after almost two hours, the BFP said.
Arson probers have yet to identify the fatalities, said to be an 84-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman.
Among those injured were Kit Mendez, 60; Manuel Yacat, 50; Miguel Martinez, 18, and Marky Yacat, 18.
Fire Officer 2 Nestor Siervo and four fire volunteers suffured burns.
In Pasig, 50 houses were destroyed when a fire broke out in a residential area yesterday.
Arson probers said the fire started at a house near the West Bank floodway in Barangay Rosario at around 4:35 a.m.
Fire Officer 3 Christopher Girao said the fire reached the third alarm before it was declared out at around 7 a.m.
Authorities said they have yet to establish the cause of the fire.
