MANILA, Philippines —  A referee was allegedly punched in the face following a basketball game in Pasay on Tuesday night, police said yesterday.

City police chief Mario Mayames Jr. identified the victim as Rex Camahalan, who was the official referee in the basketball game between Team Abra and Team Pasay at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Camahalan claimed that he was hit by one of the government employees of Abra inside the stadium’s dugout.

In a text message to The STAR, Mayames said police have yet to identify the victim’s attacker.

But Mayames confirmed that the attacker was a supporter of Team Abra, who got angry after losing the game.

Mayames was brought to the Pasay City General Hospital following the incident.

Camahalan manifested that he is “no longer interested in pursuing the case” against the suspect, police said.

The game between the two teams is part of the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
