MANILA, Philippines — The city council of San Juan is finalizing a resolution honoring the “ultimate sacrifice” of 25-year-old fire volunteer Chasper Kennet Oliver, who died while responding to a fire that struck Barangay Batis on Tuesday.
Oliver was among those who responded to a fire that razed the houses of about 80 families along Isla street, according to Mayor Francis Zamora.
Fire marshal Superintendent Mike Barayuga said fire debris fell down on Oliver.
“He sacrificed his life to save the lives of other people,” Zamora said.
The mayor said he would shoulder the hospital bills, wake and burial expenses of Oliver.
Zamora pledged to give financial aid to Oliver’s family.
The city government will also distribute assistance to the displaced families who are taking shelter at the San Juan gym.
