CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Seven communist rebels have surrendered in Masbate.
Lt. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, Area Police Command-Southern Luzon commander, said one of the surrenderees was identified as James Espares, alias Janjan, of the New People‘s Army’s Bicol Regional Party Command.
Armamento said improvised explosive devices, ammunition and other war materiel were recovered as the surrenderees led authorities to an arms cache in Barangay Ipil in Masbate City.
The rebel returnees are under police and military custody for debriefing and medical examination, among other procedures.
They received cash incentives and will be provided livelihood assistance.
