MANILA, Philippines — Criminal charges are being readied against a motorist who claimed to be a niece of a police general after she was apprehended for using the EDSA busway on April 11.
Col. Jean Fajardo, chief publicist of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said cases of usurpation of authority would be filed against the motorist after she introduced herself as a major in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The motorist told traffic enforcers that she is the niece of PNP director for logistics Maj. Gen. Mario Reyes, a claim which the official has denied.
“She is not a member of the uniformed personnel and much more hindi siya kakilala at lalong hindi siya kamag-anak ni Gen. Mario Reyes,” Fajardo said.
Reyes is also determined to file cases against the driver for using his name, according to Fajardo.
Fajardo said they are waiting to find out if the traffic enforcers who accosted the motorist would also file cases against her.
The AFP has stated that the driver is not a member of the military, according to Fajardo.
On why Reyes kept silent for several days before he issued a statement, Fajardo said the PNP general presumed that he is not the one being alluded to by the motorist.
“We all know that Mario Reyes is a common name,” Fajardo said.
