SAN FERNANDO CITY, Philippines — A university in La Union has suspended the wearing of uniform for all students and faculty members due to the hot weather.

Effective today, students and faculty members of the the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) can wear fresh and light clothing that are comfortable and can protect them from the heat.

DMMMSU president Jaime Manuel Jr. signed a memorandum declaring the suspension of wearing of uniform in five DMMMSU campuses located in this city and in the towns of Agoo, Bacnotan, Balaoan and Rosario.

The university is the largest public school in La Union named after the grandfather of President Marcos.

Manuel said the suspension was based on requests of students and employees who complained of discomfort when wearing uniform amid the heat.

The suspension will be lifted as soon as the temperature goes down, he said.

In the past few days, several public schools nationwide have suspended onsite classes due to high heat index.
