MANILA, Philippines — Due to their lack of eligibility, the appointment of 804 personnel of the Bureau of Corrections had been invalidated, BuCor chief Gregorio Catapang Jr. said yesterday.

He said he is addressing eligibility problems among the bureau’s personnel by setting up a directorate office for education and training.

“The bureau is creating a program to address their required schooling for their career advancement,” Catapang said.

Last week, Catapang swore in newly promoted Correctional Technical Superintendent Marjorie Ann Santidad, four newly promoted non-uniformed personnel and seven newly hired non-uniformed personnel.

“We will promote more personnel and we are open to hire new ones. We need to work faster, at least 10 times than the government procedure, to get things done,” he said during the oath-taking ceremony on April 4.

Republic Act 10575, the BuCor Act of 2013, resulted in the dismissal of 233 personnel in March for failing to comply with stricter eligibility requirements set under the law.
