CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A couple found dead with gunshot wounds at their home in Tanauan, Batangas in February tested positive for gunpowder, police said yesterday.

Citing results of paraffin tests conducted on the couple, Tanauan police chief Lt. Col. Apolinario Lunar said Allen John Umali, 38, and his wife Khegzy, 36, of Barangay Darasa, had traces of gunpowder in their hands.

After receiving the result of the forensic examinations, Lunar said the case is now considered closed.

“Footage taken from closed-circuit television cameras installed in the area showed no one entered the couple’s house,” Lunar said.

The couple’s money, phones and other belongings were intact, he added.

No signs of struggle were noted in the room, where the couple were found lying beside each other in bed.

The couple’s hands were tied with duct tape. Both had gunshots to the neck. A 9mm pistol was found near Allen’s head.
