Cherry blossom-like trees bloom in Taguig

Nillicent Bautista - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Native trees closely resembling Japan’s cherry blossoms line the center island and bicycle lanes of C-6 Road in Taguig.

Locally known as pink trumpets, these trees bloom in shades of pink from January to April.

While Japan’s cherry blossoms or “sakura” trees grow up to 15 to 30 feet, pink trumpets can grow as tall as 20 to 40 feet.

According to the local government, the floral display in the city began as early as 2015.

The pink trumpet has been successfully propagated locally.

The view of the Laguna de Bay from C-6, however, is now obscured by massive land reclamation projects.
