COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Investigators are still clueless on who could have perpetrated the ambush on Wednesday in Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur of a motorcycle rider-for-hire popular for his being trustworthy, friendly and hardworking.

The slain rider, Marjun Martinez Millavez, was killed in Barangay Mahayag in Dimataling on Wednesday morning.

Barangay officials and personnel of the Dimataling Municipal Police Station clarified on Sunday that Millavez was not a worker in the money lending firm Card Inc. as they had previously reported and that he only provided its employees with on-call services and accompanied them to far-flung areas for their transactions.

Millavez reportedly enjoyed the trust and confidence of employees of the firm and that they had even occasionally tasked him to facilitate linkages between them and their clients in far-flung areas.

Relatives and friends of Millavez were earlier quoted in radio reports as urging the police and local officials to work together in putting a closure to the atrocity that resulted in his death.

Officials of the municipal police told reporters on Sunday that they have enlisted the help of barangay officials in identifying the gunmen who killed Millavez, while he was motoring through a stretch of a highway in Barangay Mahayag, and escaped using getaway motorcycles.
