BACOLOD CITY MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos is expected to sign the proposed Negros Island Region (NIR) law, according to lawmakers.
Negros Occidental Reps. Jose Francisco Benitez and Alfredo Marañon III said they are confident that the proposed measure, which has been approved by the Senate and House of Representatives, would be signed next month.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said the establishment of the region is among the 42 priority measures identified by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.
”We in the Senate are prepared to push for its proper funding for 2025,” Zubiri said.
The NIR will be composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
