PNP probes shooting of BuCor chief’s vehicle
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started its investigation on the shooting that targeted a bulletproof vehicle owned by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gregorio Catapang Jr. on Tuesday.
Col. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson, said yesterday the Manila Police District is investigating the incident, which occurred on the Skyway.
“They coordinated with BuCor and Skyway management,” she said in a message on Viber.
Fajardo said police investigators have requested copies of closed-circuit television videos from the Skyway management for leads on the people who opened fire at Catapang’s Toyota Hilux pickup.
The assailants shot at Catapang’s vehicle as it was passing through the Skyway to pick up BuCor deputy chief Al Perreras in Quezon City.
Catapang believes Perreras was the target as the latter carried out many of his orders.
The bureau said the assailants, in a gray Toyota Vios, overtook the backup car, which was driven by two other security escorts, and opened fire.
There were no casualties in the shooting.
