Mandaluyong fire: 2 dead, hundreds homeless

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons died and at least 150 families were left homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday night.

Arson probers said the fire in Barangay Poblacion started at 11:51 p.m. and reached first alarm.

The fire destroyed around 50 houses before it was doused by firefighters before 2 a.m. yesterday.

Firefighters said they recovered the bodies of a 15-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother during mopping-up operations.

A 22-year-old woman was treated by first-aid responders for lacerations on her face.

Probers said the fire originated on the second floor of a two-story house. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Damage to property was placed at P9 million.

The displaced residents are taking shelter at an evacuation center.
