Infant dies in Cagayan de Oro fire

CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines — A baby died in a fire that razed a residential area in this city on Thursday.

One-year-old Carl Anthony Corpuz was trapped in a house in Sitio Manggahan, Barangay Balulang, Senior Fire Officer 4 Emmanuel Paculba said.

A certain Nelson Cayao, who tried to rescue the infant, was injured.

Sixteen families, who were rendered homeless in the fire, sought shelter in a covered court. They were assisted by the city social welfare and development office.

Probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
