BFP rescues 18 people trapped in elevator

MANILA, Philippines — Firefighters rescued 18 people who were trapped in an elevator of a commercial building in San Juan City on Monday night.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)’s National Capital Region field unit said the victims got stuck when an elevator of the building along Annapolis street in Barangay Greenhills malfunctioned.

Firefighters responded to the scene after they were informed about the incident at around 6:44 p.m.

The BFP said the elevator malfunctioned and stopped between the second and third floors of the building.

The victims were stuck for about an hour, reports said.

Video footage showed firefighters opening the elevator’s door and rescuing the victims at around 7:45 p.m.

The victims were unharmed, according to the BFP.
