MANILA, Philippines — Two alert list orders have been issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) against expelled Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., who has been tagged as the brains in the assassination of former governor Roel Degamo.
At a press briefing yesterday, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla Jr. said the alert list orders are meant to restrict Teves’ movement and to facilitate his arrest through international cooperation.
Remulla said BI officers were directed to report to the Philippine National Police (PNP) or National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) any information about Teves’ attempted entry or exit.
Immigration personnel were also instructed to refer Teves to the PNP or NBI if they chance upon him at any port of entry.
The orders, Remulla said, were based on a court warrant dated September 2023 and an Interpol “Blue Notice” published on Feb. 19.
“Teves cannot escape the long arm of the law,” Remulla said.
A Manila court has ordered the cancellation of Teves’ passport after the Anti-Terrorism Council designated him as terrorist.
With his passport canceled, Teves can no longer travel to any country and will be made to return to the Philippines to face the charges filed against him in connection with the Degamo murder.
Teves allegedly masterminded the killing of Degamo and 10 others.
The expelled congressman is facing another complaint before the Department of Justice for allegedly financing terrorism.
Teves has denied all the allegations hurled against him.
