2 hurt in Marikina fire

MANILA, Philippines — At least two people were injured in a fire that broke out at a residential area in Barangay Tumana, Marikina yesterday morning.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started at 7:47 a.m. and was extinguished at around 9 a.m.

An unnamed individual suffered a first-degree burn while a fire volunteer suffered a wound on his hand.

Arson probers have yet to determine what caused the fire and the estimated cost of damage.

In Navotas, at least nine families were left homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area along H. Monroy street in Barangay Navotas West yesterday morning.

The fire, which lasted around half an hour, started at around 10:29 a.m. and reached second alarm, the BFP said.

At least six houses were affected by the fire, a barangay official told The STAR.

No casualties or injuries were reported from the blaze.

Some of the affected families would be staying with relatives while others would be given shelter in the barangay hall, the official said.
