Weak plume emission noted in Taal Volcano
MANILA, Philippines — State volcanologists yesterday recorded a weak plume emission in Taal Volcano in Batangas as Alert Level 1 remains in effect around the area.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the 600-meter-high emission drifted west-southwest.
Phivolcs said an upwelling of hot volcanic fluid was monitored at the main crater lake.
It said at least 10,331 tons of sulfur dioxide flux is recorded per day.
Entry into Taal Volcano Island, especially at the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, as well as occupancy and boating remain prohibited.
Volcanologists warned that steam-driven or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes and minor ashfall may occur any time.
