Infrastructure damage hits P588.4 million in Davao, Caraga

MANILA, Philippines — Damage to infrastructure due to floods and landslides following heavy rainfall spawned by the northeast monsoon and trough of a low-pressure area in Davao and Caraga regions since Jan. 28 has reached P588.4 million.

At least 112 infrastructure facilities have been damaged, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council reported yesterday.

The NDRRMC said 1,304 hectares of agricultural land were also affected. The cost of damage is still being assessed.

Fifteen cities and towns in the two regions were placed under a state of calamity.

The NDRRMC said 59,305 people in Davao and Caraga were pre-emptively evacuated.

At least 365,564 families or 1,228,003 people were affected, 359,014 of them displaced.

The NDRRMC said that 20 people were reported dead, 11 injured and two missing.

The government has so far provided assistance worth P153.7 million to affected residents.
