COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A member of the Maritime police shot his brother dead amid a heated altercation and killed himself with his service pistol in a bizarre incident on Wednesday night in Barangay Tetuan in Zamboanga City.

Radio reports here on Thursday, citing initial statements from the Zamboanga City Police Office and the Police Regional Office-9, stated that Staff Sgt. Ferdinand Bani Daniel first killed with his Glock 9 millimeter pistol his younger brother, Angelo, and shot himself in the head after the victim fell at one side of the Don Alfaro Street in Barangay Tetuan.

Villagers had told probers that they first heard the siblings arguing loudly over control of a house on a lot owned by their uncle, Virgilio Bani, before shots reverberated through the scene.

Relatives told reporters that Daniel, who belonged to a Maritime unit of the Philippine National Police, and his slain brother had squabbled for control of the property that Bani had reportedly entrusted to them both.

Angelo Bani Daniel, who was shot by his policeman-sibling, died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.
