Go aids Iloilo typhoon victims
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go led a relief activity for victims of Typhoon Egay in Iloilo City as well as Zarraga and Pavia towns after attending the Dinagyang Festival on Sunday.
The relief activity was held at the Bakhaw Integrated School in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City, where 53 affected families received grocery packs, meals, vitamins, face masks, shirts, belt bags and balls for basketball and volleyball. There were also select recipients of shoes, mobile phones and bicycles.
Through Go’s initiative, the National Housing Authority (NHA) provided emergency housing assistance to qualified families.
“Bibigyan po kayo ng NHA ng (housing) assistance, pambili po ito ng kagamitan o ng housing materials tulad ng pako o yero para sa pag-papaayos ng inyong bahay,” Go said.
The senator was joined by former councilor Love Baronda, NHA-Western Visayas acting division manager John Leo Solinap and city social welfare and development officer Teresa Gelogo.
Go said he continues to push for the passage of Senate Bill No. 188 or the proposed Department of Disaster Resilience Act, which seeks to create a highly specialized agency to ensure adaptive, disaster-resilient and safe communities.
If passed into law, the department will centralize efforts, streamline coordination and provide swift and effective emergency response.
