‘Quezon City crimes down 25 percent’

MANILA, Philippines — Crime incidents in Quezon City dropped by 25 percent in the last week of January, police announced yesterday.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said 21 cases of the eight focus crimes were recorded from Jan. 22 to 28.

The figure is lower compared to the 27 cases documented from Jan. 15 to 21.

The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.

QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan attributed the decrease in crimes to intensified police operations.

He expressed his gratitude to Mayor Joy Belmonte, her constituents and other stakeholders for supporting the QCPD’s programs.

The QCPD had reported the arrest of 155 fugitives from Jan. 1 to 21.

Of the number, 73 were tagged as most wanted persons. The Talipapa police station posted the highest number of apprehensions with nine.

Meanwhile, the city government of Muntinlupa recorded a crime solution efficiency of 92.50 percent in 2023, according to the Philippine National Police.

During a peace and order council meeting held on Jan. 22, the Muntinlupa police reported that the rating is higher compared to the 87.72 percent crime solution efficiency in the same period in 2022.

Crime solution efficiency refers to the percentage of cases solved out of the total number of crimes recorded in a given period.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon, who attended the meeting, said the high crime solution rating is a testament to the local government’s commitment to ensuring peace and order in the city.

“This reflects how important it is for the local government to ensure the safety of each Muntinlupeño,” Biazon said.

Officials of the city health office, maritime law enforcement unit and drug abuse prevention office also attended the meeting.
