Man nabbed for ‘sextortion’
MANILA, Philippines — A man who allegedly threatened a girl that he would expose her nude photographs and videos on social media was arrested in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday.
The suspect, 25-year-old Denver Estorninos, was apprehended by members of the police Anti-Cybercrime Group in an entrapment operation in Barangay 547 at around 2:21 a.m.
The operation hatched against Estorninos was based on a complaint from a girl who accused him of sextortion.
The suspect, who posed as a woman on Facebook, reportedly asked the victim to send her nude photos and videos in exchange for P8,000.
The victim initially ignored the request, but Estorninos was persistent so she caved in to the suspect’s demand.
The suspect allegedly coerced the victim to perform a lewd act through a video call.
Estorninos then allegedly threatened the victim that he would upload her explicit pictures and videos on the internet if she would not have sex with him.
The girl informed her parents about her ordeal, prompting them to seek police assistance.
Estorninos is facing complaints for grave coercion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Law and RA 11930, otherwise known as the anti-child sexual abuse or exploitation materials law.
