CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A policeman died while his colleague was injured after they were hit by a pick-up truck at a checkpoint in Silang, Cavite on Sunday.

Pat. John Karl Delyola, 27, of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Calabarzon, was declared dead on arrival at the Silang Special Medical Center, where his companion, Pat. Adriane Atienza, 29, was also rushed for treatment.

Delyola died from severe body injuries as the impact threw him several meters away from the checkpoint, according to Lt. Col. Louie Gonzaga, Silang police chief.

Police arrested truck driver Jemuelle Arvee Belen and impounded his truck.

Authorities said Belen tested positive for alcohol.

Video footage from a closed-circuit television camera installed along the highway showed Belen was speeding when he hit the officers, who were manning the checkpoint in Barangay Tubuan-2.
