MANILA, Philippines — The case involving missing beauty pageant candidate Catherine Camilon should be immediately resolved, according to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

In a statement, the CHR cited recent developments in the case, including the dismissal of former police major Allan de Castro, who was tagged in Camilon’s disappearance.

“We acknowledge the progress of this case as it serves as a reminder of the government’s proactive commitment to the pursuit of justice and accountability, particularly in this case,” the commission said.

The CHR reminded the Philippine National Police to uphold its mantra “to serve and protect,” noting that it is intended to reinforce the public’s trust in the PNP and its mission to serve the community while upholding the highest ethical standards and respect for human rights.

“The commission calls for a prompt resolution and just administration of this case. We are one with the government and all relevant stakeholders to unveil Ms. Camilon’s whereabouts and ensure that justice prevails,” it said.

Camilon was supposed to meet De Castro on Oct. 12, 2023 when she was reported missing.

De Castro was dismissed by the police Regional Internal Affairs Service after a probe uncovered evidence that he had an extramarital affair with Camilon.
