MANILA, Philippines — At least 50 families were left homeless after a fire broke out at a residential area in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday night.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze started along Ilaya street in Barangay Alabang at past 7 p.m.

Twenty-eight fire trucks responded to extinguish the fire, which reached second alarm, according to the BFP.

The fire was put out at 9:33 p.m.

No one was reported injured in the incident. Damage to property was placed at P200,000.

Arson investigators said they have yet to determine what caused the fire.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited yesterday the residents displaced by the fire, who are taking shelter at the Alabang Elementary School.

They received food packs, hygiene and sleeping kits, kitchen equipment as well as clothes from the city government.

Biazon also assured the fire victims of financial assistance.

City hall deployed an emergency response team in the evacuation center to provide medical services.
