MANILA, Philippines — The number of families affected by floods and landslides in Davao due to heavy rainfall spawned by the shear line has ballooned to 44,888.

In its latest report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 187,108 people were affected.

The NDRRMC said 1,990 families or 6,709 people remained in 37 evacuation centers.

Davao del Norte has the highest number of affected residents at 38,158 followed by Davao de Oro with 5,959; Davao Oriental, 751, and Davao Occidental, 20.

At least 109 barangays were affected, with several roads and bridges closed to traffic.

Damage to property and infrastructure has yet to be determined.

More than P2.9 million worth of family food packs, rice and other basic necessities have been provided to affected families.

In its advisory early yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned residents of Caraga, Davao and Northern Mindanao of flashfloods or landslides during moderate to heavy rainfall caused by the shear line.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail in the three regions.

The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.
