Contractor, worker buried in Ilocos Sur landslide

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Rescuers recovered the bodies of a sub-contractor from Benguet and one of his workers, who were buried in a landslide in a construction site in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Ricardo Bayeng, 59, and Joseph Ramirez, 29, a backhoe operator.

Bayeng was a sub-contractor of Nestor General Engineering Construction and foreman of construction works in the area.

Police said the victims were working on a road project when a portion of the mountain collapsed.

Authorities have launched an investigation, noting that there was no weather disturbance in the area.
